Adidas Stan Smiths

Stan Smiths
The iconic tennis shoe has become a staple in the fashion girl’s closet. Endorsed by American tennis player, Stan Smith, this sneaker has a simplicity that makes for a classic shoe.

Adidas is famous for creating the first leather tennis shoe in 1963, and the 1965 model was named after French tennis pro, Robert Haillet. After he retired, Adidas found Stan Smith to endorse, and the familiar green padding was added in 1967, to protect the Achilles tendon. In 1971, the year Stan Smith was ranked No. 1 in the world, the shoe was officially named the “Adidas Stan Smith.” 6a00d8341c974f53ef0112793eaabf28a4-450wi
His contract with Adidas is one of the most influential sneaker sponsorships in sports history. For several years, the name “Haillet” was above the portrait of Stan Smith, on the tongue of the shoe, but in 1978 the original endorser’s name was removed. Since then, there have been many versions of the Adidas Stan Smith, but the original remains the biggest-selling tennis shoe.

From 2012-2014, the Adidas Stan Smith was not being marketed and was rumored to be available only en France. Thankfully, in 2014 the shoe was relaunched and a new collaboration was born. Adidas x Raf Simons Stan Smith is the latest spinoff, featuring a perforated “R” and marvelous color opportunities. Also, the famed sneaker is now customizable online! I just created my very own pair for only $100 (excluding shipping). Check out my creation below:
